Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the Barbara Gordon Montessori School sends greetings to all the parents, staff, and children of BGMS, and wishes everyone a happy and productive year at school in 2012-2013. We want to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves, and to invite BGMS parents and staff to contribute their skills and interests to benefit our School and our children’s education by serving with us on Board Committees.

Our Board of Trustees is made up of 6 to 11 elected members at any given time – BGMS parents, former parents, and community supporters – all of whom donate their time and effort to guide and support the school. The duties of the Board of Trustees are to safeguard the School’s mission and serve as legal fiduciaries; to set policy; to develop a shared vision and plan strategically; and to assure the financial strength of the school. Our current members are:

Marietta Klein, President

Marietta has more than 15 years of experience with technology start-ups, and she spent many of those years building high powered organizations and was an integral member in the execution of various exit strategies. She has held the positions of Executive VP of Sales, VP of Marketing, and Sales and Customer Service. Marietta made a conscious choice to give back and share her experiences through teaching MBA classes at the University of Dallas. She has developed curriculum and taught Principles of Management, Business Methodologies and Marketing classes. Recently, she has used her expertise working with various local companies to restructure their sales organization, and build new strategies and customer acquisition processes. Ex-Officio members of the Board of Trustees include Mary Caroline Parker as Head of School, Melanie Swenson as President of the Parent Organization, and Joe Galvin as President of the Dads Club. Our founder Barbara Gordon serves as an Honorary Trustee.

All members of the Board of Trustees work on Committees specifically tasked with supporting the School in particular areas. We welcome and encourage parents and staff to join us in this work that benefits our School so much by serving on open Committees. The following Committees are seeking members for the 2012-2013 school year:

      • Buildings and Grounds. Headed by Carol Demlow, this Committee assists in overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of our School’s buildings and our campus’ landscape.
      • Communications. Led by Amy Crain, the Communications Committee works to develop public relations and marketing strategy, and assists the Capital Funding and Development Committee.
      • Strategic Planning. Under the leadership of Stacey Dwyer, this Committee establishes goals for the future development of the School and ensures that our Strategic Plan is relevant and up to date.
      • Capital Funding and Development. This Committee, chaired by Marietta Klein, is responsible for planning and coordinating fundraising for the School.

If you have skills, experience, and interest in any of these areas, we encourage you to think about volunteering to serve on one of our Board Committees as a meaningful way to take an active part in supporting our School.

The Barbara Gordon Montessori School has the honor of being one of the very first real Montessori schools in Texas, and indeed, in the United States. Our School has been a pioneer in Montessori education that has touched the lives of many people. Through work on a Board Committee, you can contribute to the vitality and stability of our School not only today, but for years to come. You can help to ensure that the same educational opportunity you have provided for your children will continue to be available for children at BGMS for generations into the future. We welcome your interest and participation! For more information, please contact:
